Abstract

Knowledge of the Importance of Innovative Natural Birth techniques of Nursing Officers working on Maternity ward in Hospitals. Natural birth techniques refer to the various physical postures a pregnant mother may assume at the delivery. The women should be given an opportunity to make a choice on the type of position and techniques to use during labour. Natural births techniques are associated with lower incidence rates of performing episiotomy, less perineal tears, less use of instrumental deliveries and c-sections deliveries. Importance of Natural birth are faster recovery after birth and less vaginal tearing since the women will push instinctively during delivery and shorter pushing time, ability to change the position, decreased risk of needing of risky intervention and avoid the side effect association with epidural and ability to bond and breastfeed the child immediately. Nursing Officers perspective on women’s positions has rarely been explored and those who support them in labour and birth using techniques that require minimal intervention and high rates of patient satisfaction. The objectives of the study were to assess the existing level of knowledge regarding the importance of innovative natural birth techniques among nursing officers working in selected maternity wards, to assess the effectiveness of educational interventional package on knowledge regarding the importance of innovative natural birth techniques among nursing officers and to find out the association between pre test knowledge score of nursing officers regarding importance of innovative natural birth techniques among nursing officers with their selected socio demographic variable. A quasi experimental (one group pre test post test) design was adopted by the researcher with 60 Nursing Officers at selected hospitals of Kanpur, U.P. who were selected by using non probability purposive sampling technique. Self-Structured knowledge questionnaire on Importance of Innovative Natural birth Techniques was used to collect data to effectiveness of Educational Interventional Package on Importance of Innovative Natural birth Techniques among Nursing Officers. The study was conducted in selected Hospitals of Kanpur, U.P. Data collected and analyzed by use of descriptive and inferential statistics methods. The result of the study showed that Pre-test mean and standard deviation for level of knowledge was 16.15 and 5.135 and Post-test mean and standard deviation for level of knowledge was 30.37 and 2.91. It shows Post-test mean is higher than Pre-test mean. When the mean and standard deviation of pre-test and post-test were compared and t-test was applied. It can be clearly seen that the paired ‘t’ test value for knowledge was 19.1443 and p value at 0.05 level which clearly shows that Educational interventional package was very effective in increasing the knowledge regarding on Importance of Innovative Natural Birth Techniques. H1i.e. there is a significant difference between the pre test and post test knowledge score on The Importance Of Innovative Natural Birth Techniques among Nursing Officers is accepted.
